Roost Sleep FAQs

Roost Sleep Help Center

Everything you need to know for a better night's sleep.

Top Questions

Why should I choose Roost Sleep over other online brands?
Roost Sleep stands out by offering luxury 12-inch and 14-inch profiles at a fraction of the cost of "big box" competitors. Unlike many brands, our mattresses are 100% fiberglass-free and CertiPUR-US® certified, ensuring a luxury sleep experience without compromising on safety or your budget.
What is the "sweet spot" firmness of a Roost mattress?
We designed our mattresses to fall at a 6.5 on the firmness scale (Medium-Plush). This is widely considered the "Universal Sweet Spot"—plush enough to relieve pressure for side sleepers, yet supportive enough to maintain spinal alignment for back and stomach sleepers.
Do I really have 100 nights to decide if I like it?
Yes! We want you to be 100% confident. We ask that you sleep on your new Roost mattress for at least 30 nights to allow your body to adjust to the new support system. If you aren't in love by night 100, we’ll work with you to make it right.
Do I need to save the giant shipping box for a return?
No box? No problem. We know those shipping boxes are huge and take up space. If you decide to return your mattress during your trial period, you don't need to struggle with re-boxing it. We will coordinate a local pickup or donation for you.

Sleep and Health

What are the health benefits of a good night's sleep?
A good night’s sleep supports overall health—reducing fatigue, improving mood, minimizing sleep disturbances, and alleviating back pain. Poor sleep can be linked to issues like insomnia, narcolepsy, obesity, and irritability. Choosing a supportive, comfortable mattress can help promote more restorative rest.
Which mattress is best for my sleep position?
Most modern mattresses accommodate various positions:
Back Sleepers: Medium to medium-firm for lumbar support.
Side Sleepers: Slightly softer surfaces (foam, latex, plush hybrid) for shoulder/hip relief.
Stomach Sleepers: Firmer surfaces to prevent midsection sinkage.
How do I choose the right pillow for my sleep position?
Much like mattresses, a pillow's "loft" (height) depends on your position. Side sleepers usually benefit from a higher loft to fill the gap between the ear and shoulder. Back sleepers often prefer a medium loft to keep the neck aligned, while stomach sleepers typically need a very low, plush loft to prevent neck strain.

Mattress Size, Dimensions, and Industry Tolerances

What are the standard mattress dimensions?
Twin: 39" W x 75" L
Twin XL: 39" W x 80" L
Full: 54" W x 75" L
Queen: 60" W x 80" L
King: 76" W x 80" L
Cal King: 72" W x 84" L
Why is my mattress different from the size listed on the packaging?
Rolled and compressed mattresses may vary slightly in size once unpacked. The industry (as guided by the ISPA) allows minor variances of about 0.5" to 0.75". These differences do not affect performance or comfort.
What mattress heights do you carry?
We offer three distinct profiles to suit your needs: our luxury mattresses are available in 12-inch and 14-inch heights, while our specialized sofa bed mattress features a slim 4.5-inch profile.

Safety & Quality

Does your mattress contain fiberglass?
At Roost, safety is our priority. Our mattresses use high-quality fire-retardant barriers that are fiberglass-free. We utilize modern, safe materials to meet all federal flammability standards without the use of glass fibers.
What does it mean that these mattresses are CertiPUR-US® certified?
This means the foam has been independently tested to be low VOC (for better air quality) and is made without harmful chemicals like formaldehyde, lead, mercury, or ozone depleters.
Are these mattresses hypoallergenic and dust mite resistant?
Yes. Foam and latex are naturally resistant to dust mites. For innerspring and hybrid models, we recommend using a protective cover to keep the sleeping surface allergen-free.
Does your mattress have an odor?
A mild “new product” smell (often called off-gassing) is common with foam products. Because our foams are CertiPUR-US® certified, this scent is confirmed to be low-VOC and non-toxic. It typically dissipates within 24–72 hours in a well-ventilated room.
Are these mattresses safe for children and infants?
Yes. Our materials are tested for harmful substances and emissions. For infants, however, ensure you are using a mattress specifically designed for cribs, as adult mattresses are too soft for infant sleep safety. For toddlers and older children, our twin and full-sized mattresses provide excellent, safe support.
Do these mattresses meet federal fire safety standards?
Absolutely. All our mattresses meet or exceed 16 CFR Part 1632 and 1633 federal flammability standards. We achieve this using high-quality, fiberglass-free fire barriers that provide a safe sleeping environment without the use of harsh chemical sprays.
Are the materials used in the covers breathable?
Yes. We select cover fabrics—such as cotton blends, Tencel, or specialized cooling knits—specifically for their moisture-wicking and airflow properties. This ensures that heat doesn't get trapped against your skin, even if the mattress core is made of dense foam.

Mattress Types and Comfort

What types of mattresses are available?
Memory foam, gel memory foam, latex, innerspring, and hybrid models are common. Many retailers offer futon mattresses, sofa bed mattresses, adjustable bases, bed frames, upholstered beds, headboards, pillows, mattress toppers, and protectors.
What is the difference between Memory Foam, Latex, and Hybrid?
Memory Foam: Closely contours to the body and minimizes motion transfer.
Latex: More responsive, breathable, and slightly bouncier.
Hybrid: Combines coils with foam/latex for a balance of bounce and pressure relief.
What will my sleeping experience be like on these mattresses?
Different mattress types offer distinct feels:
Memory Foam & Latex: Conforming support that cradles the body and relieves pressure points.
Innerspring: A traditional, responsive feel with supportive coils that often minimize motion transfer.
Hybrid: Combines coils with foam or latex, providing balanced support, pressure relief, and a touch of bounce.
What’s the difference between memory foam and latex foam mattresses?
Memory foam (polyurethane-based) closely contours to the body, minimizing motion transfer. Latex (natural or synthetic rubber) is more responsive, breathable, and slightly bouncier.
What’s the difference between memory foam and gel memory foam mattresses?
Gel-memory foam infuses gel into the foam to improve airflow and temperature regulation, often sleeping cooler than standard memory foam.
What’s the difference between gel-infused foam and a gel layer?
Gel-infused foam distributes gel particles throughout, providing more consistent cooling. A separate gel layer may offer localized cooling but is less uniform.
Are these mattresses hypoallergenic?
Foam and latex mattresses are naturally hypoallergenic. Innerspring and hybrid models can stay allergen-free with protective covers and proper cleaning.
Should I buy a hybrid, memory foam, or latex mattress?
Consider personal preference: Memory foam for pressure relief, latex for responsiveness and breathability, and hybrid for a balanced feel of support and contouring.
What’s the difference between a pillow-top mattress and a Euro-top mattress?
Pillow-tops and Euro-tops add an extra layer of cushioning on the surface of innerspring or hybrid mattresses, providing a plush feel. Pillow-tops are sewn onto the top, while Euro-tops are stitched flush with the mattress edges for a cleaner look.
Will these mattresses support my back and spine?
Yes. Quality mattresses—foam, latex, innerspring, or hybrid—are designed to support the body evenly. Foam and latex contour closely, while innerspring and hybrids use coils to distribute weight evenly, promoting proper spinal alignment and reducing pressure points.
How long does it take to adjust to my new mattress?
Expect about 2–3 weeks for your body to adapt. This period allows you to experience the mattress’s true comfort and support.
What if my mattress feels too firm or too soft after a few weeks?
If you still find it uncomfortable after 2–3 weeks, consider adding a mattress topper to adjust the feel. Softer toppers can ease pressure points, while firmer toppers can add support.
My mattress is supposed to sleep cooler, but I still feel hot at night. What could be causing this?
Even if your mattress has cooling features—such as gel-infused foam, breathable latex, or specialized cooling fabrics—your bedding choices can significantly impact your sleep temperature. Using a non-breathable mattress protector or synthetic sheets can trap heat and moisture.
What are your recommendations for cooler sleep?
Choose a Cooling Mattress Pad: Opt for a breathable material pad with cooling properties. Natural fibers like cotton or bamboo are excellent choices.

Use Natural, Breathable Sheets: Cotton, bamboo, or eucalyptus-based sheets typically offer better temperature regulation.

Avoid Heavy Layers: Steer clear of thick, non-porous mattress protectors or toppers that block airflow.

Coil Information and Support Structures

How many coils are in a hybrid or innerspring mattress?
Coil count varies by size. A higher coil count doesn’t guarantee better quality; design, coil gauge, and materials matter more for comfort and durability.
What is the coil gauge of innerspring mattresses?
Coil gauge typically ranges from 12 to 15. The lower gauge (thicker coil) is firmer and more durable. Consider coil type and mattress design rather than just coil count or gauge.
What is the difference between an innerspring coil and a wrapped coil?
Individually wrapped (pocketed) coils move independently to reduce motion transfer. Traditional interconnected coils provide uniform support but may transfer more movement between partners.

Shipping Information

How much does shipping cost?
We offer Free Shipping on all mattress orders within the contiguous United States. Shipping for pillows, toppers, and other accessories may vary; please check your cart at checkout for the most accurate rates.
How long will it take for my order to arrive?
Most orders are processed within 1–3 business days. Depending on your location, transit time usually takes an additional 3–7 business days. You will receive a tracking number via email as soon as your order leaves our facility.
What should I do if my box arrives damaged?
While our boxes are reinforced for shipping, the exterior may occasionally show wear. Please inspect the inner plastic seal; if the mattress itself is punctured or damaged, take photos of the box and the product immediately and contact our support team at (855)-612-9100.
Can I change my shipping address after I’ve placed an order?
If your order hasn’t shipped yet, we can usually update the address. Once a tracking number has been generated and the carrier has picked up the item, we are unable to redirect the package. Please double-check your shipping details at checkout!
Do I need to be home to sign for my delivery?
Most of our shipments are delivered via FedEx or UPS and do not require a signature. The driver will typically leave the box at your front door, porch, or apartment complex mailroom.
Do you offer "White Glove" delivery or old mattress removal?
Our standard free shipping is "to-your-door" via ground carriers. At this time, we do not offer inside setup or old mattress removal. However, we recommend checking with local charities or recycling centers listed in our "Additional Guidance" section for easy disposal options.
Why are these mattresses compressed?
Compression and roll-packing facilitate easier shipping and moving through doorways and stairwells.
How heavy is the box? Can I move it by myself?
Our mattresses range from 60 to 130 lbs depending on size. We recommend having two people available to move the box to the bedroom, especially for Queen and King sizes.
Do you ship to P.O. Boxes or APO/FPO addresses?
Because of the size and weight of our mattress boxes, we cannot ship to P.O. Boxes or military APO/FPO addresses. We require a physical street address for all deliveries.
Do you ship internationally?
We currently offer delivery exclusively within the contiguous United States (the lower 48 states). At this time, we do not provide international shipping.
What happens if my order is lost or shows as "delivered" but I haven't received it?
Occasionally, carriers may mark a package as delivered 24 hours before it actually arrives. If you still haven’t seen it after one business day, please check with neighbors and then contact us so we can open a trace.

Setup, Care & Maintenance

How long does it take to decompress and adjust?
Decompression usually takes 24–72 hours. While you can often sleep on it sooner, allowing it to fully expand ensures optimal comfort. Once set up, expect about 2–3 weeks for your body to fully adapt to the new support.
Can I sleep on the mattress if it’s not fully decompressed?
Yes, but the mattress may feel firmer initially. Complete decompression provides the best comfort.
Does weather affect the feel of the mattress during setup?
Cold weather may slow decompression slightly. Once at room temperature, the mattress will feel as intended.
If there is an odor when I first unpack the mattress, should I be concerned?
A mild “new product” smell is common. It’s not harmful and typically dissipates within a few days as the mattress airs out.
How do I reduce any initial odor?
Leave the mattress uncovered in a well-ventilated room. Open windows or use fans to help odors fade faster.
Will I ever need to flip my mattress?
Most modern mattresses are one-sided and don’t require flipping. Rotating head-to-foot occasionally can help even out wear, but it isn’t always necessary.
How do I clean my mattress or pillow?
Spot clean with a water-based solution, avoiding excessive moisture. We strongly recommend using a mattress protector to prevent stains and maintain your warranty.
How do I clean my mattress cover?
Spot cleaning is recommended, and using a protector prevents stains from reaching the cover. Always follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.
Can I use an electric blanket or heating pad with my mattress?
Avoiding prolonged use at high heat is not recommended, as it may affect certain mattress materials and permanently affect certain foams' elasticity. Keep the heat moderate for best results.
Why can’t I remove the mattress law tag?
The law tag provides important identification for warranty claims. Removing it may void your warranty.
Do I need standard or deep pocket sheets?
Mattresses 6–14 inches thick usually fit standard sheets. Thicker mattresses may need deep pocket sheets. Check sheet packaging for size guidelines.
Do I need a mattress protector?
A protector shields against spills, stains, dust mites, and allergens. It can prolong mattress life and may be required by some warranties.
Where should I unpack my new mattress?
Move the box into the room where the mattress will be used before opening. Once expanded, the mattress can be more difficult to move.
What should I place my new mattress on?
Use a sturdy foundation or frame with center support for larger mattresses. Keep slats no more than four inches apart. Platforms, adjustable bases, and reinforced metal frames are all good choices.
Can I use my new mattress without a box spring?
Many modern mattresses do not require a traditional box spring. A platform bed, slatted base (with correct spacing), or adjustable base can provide adequate support. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Are these mattresses compatible with an adjustable base?
Many foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses work well with adjustable bases. Some innersprings are also compatible. Consult the specifications or ask the retailer.

Normal Changes in Feel and Appearance

Why does my new mattress feel firmer than the one I tried in the store?
Brand-new foam and coils are at their peak tension. Much like a new pair of shoes, they require a "break-in" period. It takes about 30 nights of consistent weight and body heat for the materials to relax into their intended feel.
My mattress feels softer or slightly lumpier in certain areas over time. Is this normal?
Yes. Materials settle with use, conforming to your body’s shape. This is natural and not necessarily a defect. Over time, these areas often even out as the materials relax and adapt.
Do mattresses get softer over time?
Many mattresses “break in” slightly over the first few weeks, feeling softer as foams loosen and coils settle. This is normal and helps you experience the mattress’s intended comfort.
What causes a mattress to sag or dip in the middle?
Inadequate support from the foundation or frame is the most common cause. Ensure there’s proper center support for larger sizes, and if using slats, keep them no more than four inches apart.

100-Night Sleep Trial

How does the 100-Night Sleep Trial work?
We want you to love your sleep. We ask that you trial your new mattress for at least 30 nights to allow your body to adjust to the new support system. If you’re still not satisfied after the break-in period but before the 100th night, contact our support team to initiate a return or exchange.
Does the 100-Night Trial apply to pillows and toppers?
While mattresses have a full 100-night trial, smaller accessories like pillows and toppers may have a different return window due to hygiene and shipping logistics. Please refer to our Returns Policy page for the specific timeframe.

Manufacturing, Warranty, & Returns

Do I need to save the original shipping box for a return?
No! Once a mattress is expanded, it is nearly impossible to get back into the original box. If you decide to return your mattress within the trial period, we will work with you to arrange a pickup or local donation—no re-boxing required.
Where are these mattresses manufactured?
Manufacturing locations vary. Some are made domestically, others internationally. Regardless, quality assurance measures and warranties ensure reliability.
What kind of warranties are available?
Warranties vary widely, from 1 year to 10 years or more. Review the warranty details for specifics on coverage, conditions, and claim procedures.
How do I register my product and date of purchase?
Check the product documentation or the manufacturer’s website for registration instructions. Registration helps with warranty claims if needed.
How do I handle warranty issues?
Contact the retailer or manufacturer’s customer service. Have your proof of purchase and product information ready. They will guide you through the warranty claim process.
What if I need to replace or return my mattress?
Return and exchange policies vary by retailer. Check their terms for restocking fees, pickup charges, or exchange options.
I bought my mattress on Amazon or Walmart and I have an issue. Who do I contact?
For shipping or stock issues, please contact the retailer directly. However, for warranty or structural concerns, we are here to help. Please email us at service@decorohome.com with your order number and photos of the issue.

Pillows & Toppers

Are your pillows machine washable?
Most of our high-quality foam pillows feature a removable, machine-washable cover for easy cleaning. However, the internal foam core should never be submerged in water or put in a dryer. Check the specific care tag on your pillow for detailed instructions.
Will a mattress topper fix a sagging mattress?
A topper is designed to change the feel of a mattress (making it softer or firmer), but it cannot fix a mattress that is sagging or dipping in the middle. Because a topper is flexible, it will simply follow the indentation of the mattress beneath it.
How do I keep my mattress topper from sliding?
Many of our toppers include a non-slip bottom surface or elastic anchor straps to keep them securely in place. If you find yours moving, ensure it is placed directly on the mattress surface underneath your mattress protector and fitted sheet.
Can I use a mattress topper on an adjustable base?
Yes! Because our toppers are made of flexible foam, they will move seamlessly with your adjustable base as it inclines or declines.
My new pillow has a slight odor. Is this normal?
Much like our mattresses, new foam pillows may have a "fresh foam" scent upon opening. This is non-toxic and will dissipate within 24–48 hours. Expanding the pillow in a well-ventilated room or near a window will speed up this process.

Adjustable Bases

Can the adjustable base fit in my existing bed frame?
Most adjustable bases fit standard frames. For custom or antique frames, measure inside dimensions before purchase.
Can I use a bed skirt with an adjustable base?
Yes. The bottom of the base remains stationary, allowing for a standard bed skirt.
Can I add leg extenders to the adjustable base for more height?
Alterations may void the warranty. Look for bases with adjustable legs or compatible accessories, as the manufacturer recommends.
What’s the difference between adjustable bases with wall-hugging features and those without?
Wall-hugging bases keep you closer to your bedside table as the head inclines, while non-wall-hugging bases move you slightly forward, away from the wall.
What does the adjustable base warranty include?
Warranties typically cover manufacturing defects, with parts sometimes prorated over time. Review the documentation for exact terms.

Additional Guidance

Can I place my mattress on the floor?
Temporarily, yes. But long-term use on the floor reduces airflow and may affect longevity. A proper foundation or frame is recommended.
Are custom sizes or special orders available?
Many retailers stick to standard sizes. If you need a custom size, check with the retailer or manufacturer about special-order options.
How do I choose the right firmness?
Firmness is subjective. Side sleepers often prefer softer surfaces, while back and stomach sleepers may need a firmer feel for support. Consider your comfort preferences, sleep position, and body weight.
Can I bend or fold the mattress for moving or storage?
Foam and latex mattresses are more flexible and can be gently bent for short periods. Innerspring and hybrid models should not be forcibly bent, as it can damage coils. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidance.
How do I store my mattress if I move or renovate?
Store it flat in a cool, dry space. Use a breathable cover to protect it from dust and moisture. Avoid placing heavy objects on top to prevent indentations.
How do I dispose of an old mattress?
Many communities offer recycling programs or bulk pickup for old mattresses. Contact local waste management or donation centers for options. Some retailers also offer removal services.
Is letting children or pets jump on the mattress okay?
Frequent jumping can stress materials and reduce lifespan. Occasional gentle activity shouldn’t cause harm, but it’s best to discourage high-impact jumping for long-term durability.
